Origins

Originating under the former YWCA of Washington, PA’s Women’s Resource Center, Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern PA – formerly Washington Women’s Shelter, Inc. – has been providing shelter and other domestic violence-related services continuously in Pennsylvania’s Washington County since August of 1984.

At the request of the PA Coalition Against Domestic Violence, we opened our Greene County Satellite Office/Counseling Center in 1993. Again at the request of PCADV, we began providing shelter and support services in Fayette County in 2010.

Name Change

To better reflect our service area and our work, in 2011 the Board of Directors formally changed our organization’s name to:

Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania
