Tanya's story

Tania story

At the heart of DVSSP’s mission is the belief that every person deserves a life free from abuse. Tanya*, a survivor of domestic violence, knows firsthand the power of healing and transformation.

Tanya’s journey with DVSSP began when she attended our mobile advocacy and empowerment sessions at a women’s halfway house. It was here that Tanya learned about the therapy services DVSSP offers, sparking the beginning of her path to healing.

“After I graduated from rehab, I reached out to Allison. She had talked about the therapy available to women like me, and I knew it was the right step,” Tanya shared.

Her therapy sessions with Roxanne helped her recognize her own self-worth, an essential aspect of her healing process. While Tanya faced many challenges along the way, the one that stood out was the time spent away from her daughter. "Anything that took time away from her, from that mother-daughter relationship, was the hardest part," she reflected.

However, as she navigated her journey, her relationship with her daughter became even more important. Today, Tanya is proud of the life she’s built for herself. “I feel like I see my worth now, and I’m not willing to settle for anything less,” she said. “Some days are harder than others, but therapy has helped me see that I’m worthy of an amazing life on my own.”

Tanya’s experience is a testament to the life-changing impact of therapy, housing support, and the empowerment DVSSP offers. She now resides in a three-quarter apartment and is working toward the goal of having her own place, thanks to the housing resources available through DVSSP.

“I’m so grateful for DVSSP. The help was there when I was ready, and it has given me the strength to stand on my own,” she shared. “With the support of my therapist, I’ve learned how to be independent and build a life for myself and my child.”

Always proud to spread the word about the services that changed her life, “I tell everyone I meet how amazing my therapist is. It’s the longest I’ve ever stuck with therapy, and it’s been life-changing,” she said.

Her words are a powerful reminder that help is available when you’re ready to reach out. As Tanya shared, “I’m just eternally grateful for the help that was available to me.”
