THRIVE Project

THRIVE: Tool for Health & Resilience In Vulnerable Environments

In the summer of 2020, DVSSP received funding to implement a community level project in a rural community in our service area of Washington, Greene, and Fayette counties. DVSSP has always received unwavering support from the Carmichaels community from the school district’s participation in prevention programs to the community’s commitment to raising awareness about domestic violence and the services DVSSP has to offer. This is one of many reasons Carmichaels was chosen as the site for this exciting prevention effort.

Early in 2021, residents of Carmichaels were surveyed using the THRIVE model as a guide. The survey gave community members an opportunity to rate different factors in their community and DVSSP staff used that information to develop questions to ask in community meetings.

DVSSP continues to receive funding year after year.

Implemented Projects Due to Feedback

More About THRIVE

Created by the Prevention Institute, THRIVE enables communities to determine how to improve health and safety, and promote health equity. It is a framework for understanding how structural drivers play out at the community level in terms of the social-cultural, physical/built, and economic/ educational environments. We call these community-level indicators the community determinants of health. In addition to being a framework, THRIVE is also a tool for engaging community members and practitioners in assessing the status of community determinants, prioritizing them, and taking action to change them in order to improve health, safety, and health equity.
